What is Restorative Dentistry?

Restorative dentistry focuses on diagnosing, preventing, and treating oral health issues while restoring the functionality and aesthetics of your teeth. Essentially, it addresses problems like damaged, decayed, or missing teeth to help you achieve a healthy, fully functioning smile.

Unlike cosmetic dentistry, which emphasizes the appearance of your teeth, restorative dentistry prioritizes health, although the procedures often enhance your smile’s appearance as well. A qualified restorative dentist in Beaufort, like Dr. Jennifer Wallace, uses methods such as fillings, crowns, and dental implants to bring back your oral health and give you a smile that works just as well as it looks.

Reconstructive dentistry sometimes is required after trauma to the mouth or teeth.  Accidental trauma such as a car accident or a fall can cause tooth trauma. While a tooth that has sustained a minor chip can be repaired with dental bonding or porcelain veneers, more serious damage may require the structural support of a dental crown.

Sometimes when we cannot save your tooth, we will perform a tooth extraction. If you have lost one or more teeth, we can replace teeth with fully functional and highly attractive restorations. Dental implants fully restore the function of the lost tooth and have a natural look and feel.  Dental bridges are also an option for tooth replacement.

What Restorative Dentistry Can Do For You

Oral health issues can develop slowly over time or arise suddenly. Restorative dentistry can address a variety of common problems that may interfere with your ability to chew, talk, or feel confident. If you’re experiencing any of the following signs and symptoms, you may benefit from our restorative dental services:

  1. Tooth pain or sensitivity: Lingering tooth pain or sensitivity to hot, cold, or sweet foods may indicate a cavity or damaged enamel that needs to be repaired.
  2. Missing teeth: Missing teeth can make eating and speaking difficult and affect facial structure. Restorative dentistry offers solutions to replace missing teeth and restore confidence.
  3. Chipped, broken, or worn teeth: If your teeth have sustained physical damage, restorative procedures like crowns and bonding can rebuild and strengthen them.
  4. Infection or swelling in the gums: These can be warning signs of deeper dental issues, such as the need for root canal therapy to treat infected pulp within the tooth.
  5. Difficulty chewing or bite misalignment: Improper alignment or missing teeth can lead to discomfort while eating and exacerbate wear and tear on the remaining teeth.

Dr. Wallace and the team at Palmetto Smiles of Beaufort will carefully assess your concerns and recommend a treatment plan tailored to your needs.

Restorative Dentistry Services We Offer

At Palmetto Smiles of Beaufort, we offer a comprehensive suite of restorative dentistry treatments to help you achieve a fully functional and beautiful smile. Here’s an overview of the services you’ll find at our office:

Crowns

Dental crowns are custom-made “caps” placed over damaged or weakened teeth. They restore the tooth’s functionality and appearance and offer protection against further decay or injury.

Bridges

If you’re missing one or more teeth, a dental bridge can fill the gap. Anchored by crowns on either side, the bridge provides a stable, natural-looking solution to restore your smile.

Bonding

Dental bonding uses tooth-colored resin to repair chipped, cracked, or discolored teeth. It’s a cost-effective way to improve minor imperfections and bring harmony to your smile.

Inlays and Onlays

Inlays and onlays provide durable restoration for teeth that are too damaged for a filling but do not require a full crown. They are custom-fit to restore the chewing surface of your tooth and enhance its longevity.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are a state-of-the-art solution for replacing missing teeth. These titanium posts are surgically inserted into the jawbone and topped with a crown to create a natural and permanent replacement.

Tooth Extractions

Sometimes, a tooth may be beyond saving due to severe decay or trauma. When that happens, our team performs extractions with the utmost care and precision to ensure your comfort and safety.

Root Canal Therapy

If you’re experiencing severe pain due to an infected tooth, a root canal may be the best solution. This procedure removes the damaged pulp while preserving the natural structure of your tooth.

Full-Mouth Reconstruction

For those with extensive dental needs, we offer complete full-mouth reconstruction. This involves a combination of restorative treatments designed to rebuild and rejuvenate your entire smile.

At each step of the process, our team ensures your comfort and customizes each service to meet both your functional and aesthetic needs.
